International Pan-Asian Culinary Invitational
Toronto already has one of the most diverse populations in the world with a culinary scene to match! But how will Toronto’s local talents fare against bona fide chefs hailing from Taiwan and Hong Kong? Come watch as Pan-Asian cuisine gets redefined at this year’s TAIWANfest and witness the future of this dynamic and innovative cuisine! < Chef Yi-Chien Chen > Yi-Chien Chen is a chef from Taiwan that has recently graduated. Growing up in a family that runs a small restaurant, he grew up learning the skills and abilities to serve in the restaurant, and cooking became his mission and interest. Yi-Chien has slowly become an expert in country inspired dishes, influenced by his grandmother. He wishes to become an extraordinary chef within his lifetime, one that is able to bring up emotions and creativity through his dishes. < Chef William Ma > William Ma is currently the Executive Chef at the Gloucester Luk Kwok Hotel in Hong Kong. He has previously received many high distinction awards in International competitions, and receiving many honorary titles. These include the title of International Chinese Cuisine Master from the World Association of Chinese Cuisine, and receiving Honorary Members Badge from Le Cordon Bleu. Chef Ma has been featured in many TV shows and series to share his cooking experience and talent with the greater public. < Chef Irene Huang > Irene is a food enthusiast from Taiwan that moved from Kaohsiung to Canada at the age of 14. After receiving culinary management diploma from George Brown Culinary College, she was able to learn how to prepare Taiwanese, Japanese, Korean, Thailand and North American cuisine. Irene is currently working at Buna’s Kitchen as a chef, while pursuing further education in culinary nutrition at George Brown College, slowly working towards her dream to open up her own cozy restaurant!
Miles Suhaimi moved from Malaysia to Canada at the age of 14. He’s always wanted to be a chef due to his amazing ability to cook, so he started pursuing his dream by working 2 jobs to put him through culinary school. He is a previous winner of the Harbourfront Emerging Chef Competition, representing his school. Miles believes that his skills are significant to keep him going as a chef, and known he has grown a lot more compared to where he was 5 years ago, after winning the competition.
