Vancouver already has one of the most diverse populations in the world with a culinary scene to match! But how will Vancouver's local talents fare against bona fide chefs hailing from Taiwan and Hong Kong? Come watch as Pan-Asian cuisine gets redefined at this year’s TAIWANfest and witness the future of this dynamic and innovative cuisine! < Chef Yi-Chien Chen > Yi-Chien Chen is a chef from Taiwan that has recently graduated. Growing up in a family that runs a small restaurant, he grew up learning the skills and abilities to serve in the restaurant, and cooking became his mission and interest. Yi-Chien has slowly become an expert in country inspired dishes, influenced by his grandmother. He wishes to become an extraordinary chef within his lifetime, one that is able to bring up emotions and creativity through his dishes. < Chef William Ma > William Ma is currently the Executive Chef at the Gloucester Luk Kwok Hotel in Hong Kong. He has previously received many high distinction awards in International competitions, and receiving many honorary titles. These include the title of International Chinese Cuisine Master from the World Association of Chinese Cuisine, and receiving Honorary Members Badge from Le Cordon Bleu. Chef Ma has been featured in many TV shows and series to share his cooking experience and talent with the greater public. < Chef Tom Lee > Tom Lee discovered his love for cooking at early age of 15. All of his family dinners, celebrations, and pot luck dinners with family friends somehow conjure up delicious thoughts in his head. The training he received as a young boy took place in his parents kitchen with Tom’s grandmother. When his grandmother would visit the family from Taiwan he was always eager to see what she was up to in the kitchen. After high school Tom attended the prestigious Culinary Institute of America (CIA), in Hyde Park, New York, getting his Associate in Culinary Arts and a Bachelor's in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He realized that he has stepped into a field his loves. Tom's style of cuisine is not very traditional. Working from Vancouver, New York, Miami, London and France, has influenced him as a chef. His style comes from his experiences from all over the globe. Tom Lee has previously worked at 3-Michelin Star Restaurant, "Restaurant Gordon Ramsay" in London, England, Chef Ramsay's tapas style 1-Michelin Star restaurant Maze and now holds the position of Sous Chef at Rosewood Hotel Georgia in Vancouver. < Chef Alex Mok > Chef Alex Mok started learning traditional French cooking from the chef of the royal family of Belgium after he got his training from a culinary institute. He worked at Fairmont and Westin in Vancouver, and opened a French restaurant in Yaletown. He is currently working in a management position at a high-end chain restaurant, and he also participates in local culinary competitions. Alex enjoys sharing experiences with food lovers in his spare time. He was a mentor and a judge on the show “Chef Corner Jr.”, a special host chef in Deborah Moore’s show on Fairchild Radio, a host chef on《加拿大味玩到盡》and《加拿大知食份子》, and he is also the author of “Canada Walker @ Vancouver”. < Chef Alex Wong > Alex Wong is a student that has a passion and dedication to cooking and culinary arts. Studying Chemistry at the Simon Fraser University, he has been able to hold many jobs in regards to building his experience as a chef. Chef Wong is currently a chef de partie at Stanley Park Pavilion after working Milestones Grill & Bar as Pantry Cook.
